Tonight I’m taking you to one of the most meaningful and historic celebrations in the country — the Lao National Day 2025 fireworks and drone show. This year is extra special because it marks the 50th anniversary of Lao National Day, and the celebration is extraordinarily bigger than in previous years. The night sky in Vientiane is about to light up with an unforgettable performance, including an incredible display of 6,000 drones, one of the biggest shows ever held in Laos.
Lao National Day is celebrated every year on December 2nd. It marks the historic moment in 1975 when the Lao People’s Democratic Republic was officially established. For half a century now, this day has represented independence, unity, and national pride. Across the country, people decorate streets with Lao flags, gather with friends and family, and enjoy cultural performances, ceremonies, and traditional activities. But this year, because it’s the 50-year golden anniversary, the celebrations are much larger, brighter, and more meaningful than ever before.
Here in the capital, the atmosphere is especially vibrant — with parades, music, markets, exhibitions, and special events happening all day long. And tonight’s biggest highlight is the fireworks and drone show. The official schedule was originally set for 19:00, but due to technical preparations and crowd management, it was postponed to 19:30. The full performance runs from 19:30 to 20:30, divided into three parts: the first 10 minutes of fireworks, followed by a 15-minute drone show, and ending with another 15 minutes of fireworks to conclude the hour-long celebration.
Right now, thousands of people are gathering — families with children, young people taking photos, tourists, and locals all waiting for the moment the sky lights up. The energy is incredible. Okay, the show is about to begin… let’s enjoy it together.
