Iranian Warship Iris Dana Torpedoed Near Sri Lanka In Indian Ocean; Jaishankar Speaks To Araghchi

Описание: An Iranian warship, Iris Dana, was torpedoed and sunk in international waters approximately 417 kilometres from the Indian coastline and 40 kilometres from a Sri Lankan port. The vessel had participated in the International Fleet Review in Visakhapatnam and the Milan exercises, spending about 10 to 15 days in Indian waters. Following the incident, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Araghchi. This marks the second conversation between the two ministers since the onset of the current conflict. Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi had earlier referred to Dana as an 'Indian Navy guest'. The attack occurred outside India's exclusive economic zone and territorial waters, in the high seas close to Sri Lanka's economic zone. The incident highlights the expanding theatre of conflict from the Mediterranean Sea to the Indian Ocean region, with concerns raised about approximately 9.5 million Indians residing in West Asia.
