Doheny State Beach is located in Dana Point, south Orange County, California. During the winter of 1995-1996 it provided a number of spectacular bird species (Lesser Black-backed Gull, Ivory Gull) including our subject, a White Wagtail that drew over an estimated 500 birders from throughout the United States and some foreign countries. This ‘throwback’ video hopes to capture the excitement of that time as well as document the Wagtail’s visit from Jan 25 to April 12 1996, and a week in late September 1996. We compare the 1996 habitats with what they now look like. The changing plumage of this immature is documented. A timeline of the behavior of the vagrant is shown up to the point it migrated out of the area. A video clip of the 1996 bird is presented. A comparison between its aggressive behavior towards other bird species and the behavior of a 2024 White Wagtail recently found in the County is discussed. Some pictures of birders coming to see the 1996 Wagtail on Jan 28 and Feb 24 are shown. Stories about birders, including some flying in to see the bird, are presented. Also stories presented about non-birders asking about and being shown the "wiggletail" and a bus driver helping a birder get to the Wagtail spot.
