Methane emissions from oil and gas consumed in Europe are tied for its third largest source of greenhouse gases – and that’s just the emissions that we’re being told about.
Methane has been ignored and under-regulated for years, and almost anytime organizations look at the figures more closely, they find more than what is officially reported.
The true impact of methane emissions in the EU is likely much, much bigger than we suspect.
In the short term, methane emissions are about 80x more damaging than CO2. If we don’t act now, even the most aggressive CO2 reductions won’t save us from calamitous climate repercussions.
That's why Clean Air Task Force is launching an investigation into methane emissions from oil and gas facilities all around Europe.
