A hostage situation or a voluntary sit-in? things came to a standstill last week at the Gold One mine when the rivalry between the two unions, the National Union of Mineworkers and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union reached unprecedented levels.
Good evening. Welcome to Unfiltered. I'm Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh.
While there's contestation about what really happened, there's no confusion about the fact that this is another one of the clashes between the two mining unions. Since 2012, there have been reports of the two being at loggerheads.
But what is at the core of this rivalry and when will it end?
Joining me for this discussion: In the studio, we have the President of the National Union of Mineworkers, Mr. Dan Balepile and via Zoom, we are joined by the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union, Mr. Joseph Mathunjwa.
