In this episode we headed down to Aberavon for quick short session over low water.
Our targets for the night were mainly smooth hounds and rays using crab sandeel & mackerel baits, but using other baits such as lug worm prawn & squid there was a possibility for flatties & bass too.
With the clarity on the water crystal clear and flat calm we made our baits as stream lined as possible and sent them out as far as we could which proved to be the key to catching species other than dogfish which were straight on the baits cast at a normal distance.
A single sandeel at range produced a lovely male small eyed of around 5lb for myself and then small crab baits produced the hounds for both of us.
For the 3 & a half hours we were there we had some good sport but with the wind picking up we called it a night.
Our first attempt of the year on the smooth hounds was a success and look forward to getting in on some more action as they start to show in bigger numbers.
