Welcome back to Airplane Alchemy — it’s time for Deals of the Week #9.
This week’s lineup covers a wide range of aircraft, from beautifully restored vintage taildraggers to serious experimental STOL performers, capped off with a truly unique headliner that looks more like a flying camper than an airplane.
✈️ This week’s aircraft:
1️⃣ 1939 Aeronca Chief – $29,000 (Lumberton, NJ)
An Oshkosh award-winning Chief with the rare up-exhaust configuration, powered by a Continental A-65-3. This aircraft received a complete ground-up restoration in 2007 and shows just 1,641 hours total time. The engine was overhauled in 2012 with 171 hours since major, logs included. No electrical system, Sensenich prop, and the annual is good through August 2026. Also includes a spare A-65 engine (no logs).

2️⃣ 1947 Cessna 140 (Metal Wings) – $32,500 (Lehighton, PA)
A clean, flyable classic taildragger with upgraded metal wings — no fabric maintenance to worry about. Approximately 3,500 hours total time on the airframe, with just 50 hours since major overhaul on the engine and a new prop. Fresh annual, single COM radio, complete logbooks, hangared, and well cared for. A great weekend flyer or tailwheel trainer that’s ready to go.

3️⃣ Experimental Cub (Aguila / Eagle Roost 27AZ) – $87,500
Built in 2017 by a skilled craftsman with just 300 hours total time. Powered by a Don’s Dream Machines O-201EX stroker producing 118 horsepower, equipped with E-Mags, starter, alternator, and strobe wingtips. Clean, lightweight, and thoughtfully built — a showpiece experimental Cub with strong performance.

4️⃣ CompAir 6 – $175,000 (Charlotte, NC)
A serious experimental STOL machine with just 125 hours total time. Powered by a 260-hp Lycoming O-540 with 125 hours since IRAN, paired with a low-time Hartzell constant-speed prop. Four seats, roughly 750-NM range, 1,200–1,500 fpm climb rates, and 130–140 KTAS cruise. Fresh annual, pitot-static current through October 2025, clean oil filter, recently flown, always hangared, and no damage history.

5️⃣ ⭐ Headliner: 2004 Private Explorer “Flying Camper” – $175,000 (Trois-Rivières, Quebec)
An experimental Wilson Explorer with less than 300 total flight hours, powered by a 250-hp Lycoming O-540. With its wide, utilitarian fuselage and compact wings, it almost looks like a flying bumblebee — but it’s purpose-built for adventure. Seats four without the auxiliary fuel tank or three with it installed, offering a unique blend of backcountry capability and comfort. A rare and unconventional aircraft that truly stands out.
