WHAT WE WILL COVER
UNIT – I: Determinants and Matrices
This unit covers elementary properties of determinants up to third order, consistency of systems of linear equations and Cramer’s rule. It also includes algebra of matrices, finding the inverse of a matrix and solving a system of three linear equations using the matrix inverse method.
UNIT – II: Integral Calculus
This unit introduces integration as the inverse process of differentiation. Methods of integration such as substitution, integration by parts and partial fractions (linear factors only) are discussed. Definite integrals, standard trigonometric integrals, and applications of integration to find areas and volumes (simple problems) are included.
UNIT – III: Differential Equations & Numerical Methods
This unit deals with the definition, order and degree of differential equations, formation of differential equations, and solutions of first order and first degree differential equations using the variable separable method. Numerical methods including Trapezoidal rule, Simpson’s 1/3 rule and Simpson’s 3/8 rule are covered, along with a simple introduction to MATLAB.
UNIT – IV: Two Dimensional Coordinate Geometry
This unit includes equations of straight lines in various standard forms, intersection of two straight lines, angle between lines, conditions for parallel and perpendicular lines, and perpendicular distance formula. It also covers the general equation of a circle, its characteristics, equations of circles under given conditions, and an introduction to conics (Parabola, Ellipse and Hyperbola) with standard equations and simple problems.
UNIT – V: Vector Algebra
This unit covers the definition, notation and rectangular resolution of vectors. Vector addition and subtraction, scalar and vector products are discussed, along with simple problems related to work, moment and angular velocity.
