Some blurb form the we out here website -
Introducing our next We Out Here stage takeover, Pineapple Records. They’ll be taking over The Grove on the Sunday of We Out Here 2025.
Pineapple Records is a Bristol-based label, focussed on percussive, club-focussed underground dance music, with an emphasis on groove and bass, and a love of vocals. Founded by Sam Binga, the roster spans artists such as Bakey, Bianca Oblivion, Sister Zo, Emz and many more. Through regular releases – and semi-regular club nights and festival takeovers – they’ve been able to push Binga’s vision of how diverse, yet cohesive, music can be.
They told us…
I think for anyone in the know, WOH embodies an approach to music that doesn’t particularly care about genre, or hype, or purism, but instead follows the threads that tie the best music together. I’ve tried to do something similar with Pineapple – just because I can get lost in a deep hypnotic groove, doesn’t mean I can’t also shock out to some brain-frazzling uptempo madness. And ideally, I can do all that with my friends – both in the studio, and behind the decks.
Over the past five years, we’ve tried to build a label that thrives on balance: gimmick-free music with a playful edge, club tracks that will slap up a system but never lose a groove. Pineapple’s never been about sticking to one genre— but there’s definitely a vision that ties the whole thing together. It’s about artists who understand dance music’s heritage but aren’t bound by it, musicians who want to step beyond pigeon holes and the weight of expectations, and music lovers who can follow a percussive thread wherever the dance takes them.
So with all that said, it should be no surprise to hear me say that I’m incredibly excited about our Sunday night takeover. I think we’ve been able to put together something pretty special, something that isn’t constrained by genre, but which still hangs together nicely – much like a good DJ set, now I think about it.
Sister Zo has done more than anyone to help me gain at least an inkling of why people could ever enjoy American Football, but beyond that she’s become a great friend and essential part of the label. By the time this comes out, we’ll have gone b2b all night at Good Room in NYC, and our second EP together will be out in the wild, smelling vaguely of pineapples (and her dog, Sadie).
Addison Groove is – of course – a UK legend, and one of those people who can legitimately be said to have changed the direction of dance music. We’re currently working on a bunch of music together, in between visits to KFC and arguing over who gets the last Hobnob in the pack.
