Rare Audio footage of a Ratel ZT3 (equipped with ATGM's) taking on Angolan T-55 tanks in the South African Border War.
You can hear how the gunner firing the missiles swears his mouth off initially as the missiles sometimes went haywire spiraling into the ground or air and missing the target but then you hear the cheering as they hit tank after tank.
You can also hear other Ratel 90's (armed with 90mm GT2 Cannons) firing at the enemy tanks along with return fire from the T-55's.
The South African Border War lasted 23 years from 1966-1989.
The Battle of the Lomba River, fought on October 3, 1987, was a decisive South African Defence Force (SADF) victory over Angola's FAPLA forces in southern Angola, marking a major turning point in the Angolan Civil War (part of the broader Cold War conflict). A small SADF mechanized battalion virtually destroyed FAPLA's much larger 47 Brigade, halting their advance on UNITA strongholds, showcasing superior tactics against overwhelming numbers, and contributing to the eventual political resolution of the conflict.
