I sat down with Dunfermline Athletic forward Jefferson Cáceres to chat about his journey in football so far and how he came from his hometown of Lima in Peru all the way to the Kingdom of Fife!
Jefferson looks back at how he broke into the game at Esther Grande’s youth academy in the Peruvian capital, earning him a move 1000km away to Arequipa with FC Melgar, including a loan spell at Binacional.
He reflects on his unexpected move to England, where he spent a six-month stint at Sheffield United in the English Championship without making a first-team appearance. Jefferson talks about the challenges of adapting to the rhythm and physicality of English football, and his struggle with his lack of game time.
The chat then turns to the present day, as Jefferson discusses life under manager Neil Lennon at Dunfermline, the team’s hopes of securing promotion to the Scottish Premiership, and how his teammates are helping him pick up the language.
Finally, Jefferson looks ahead to the future and shares his hopes of breaking into the senior Peru national squad one day.
