The end of the war in Vietnam in April 1975 led to waves of refugees from Vietnam settling in the United States, including in Oregon. Today, there are over 37,000 Vietnamese Oregonians, and the Vietnamese language is among the most common spoken in the state. The fiftieth anniversary of the beginning of this population making home in Oregon offers an opportunity to reflect on the many ways the state’s history has been shaped by its Vietnamese residents. All are welcome to attend this public program, featuring the pop-up exhibition This is Vietnamese Portland; Đây là Portland của Người Việt, artwork by Lê Quang Vinh, and presentations by prominent Vietnamese Oregonians Paul Vu, Thuy Tran, Daniel Nguyen, as well as Zoë Maughan of the Vietnamese Portland: Memory, History, Community project.
