Tori is a celebration of the artistry and skill of Eastern art and incorporates this into the style of Chinoiserie. Chinoiserie entered European art in the mid-17th century and was a global phenomenon and considered to be an important result of the exchange between the West and the East which focuses on the exuberant decoration and stylized nature of Oriental art.

Tori depicts an exquisite Chinoiserie bird trail delicately hand painted in our studio and worked into a fine silk texture. In Eastern Art, birds are also an important and popular form of imagery and symbolism, signifying longevity, luck and love.
 
Tori means bird in Japanese, the designer used the decorative form of the Oriental pheasant which is often interchanged in Eastern art with the phoenix. These birds have an imperial link with Eastern art and are emblems for beauty and good fortune, gracefully perched onto the trailing branches, the birds balance splendidly against the forming spring blossoms.
 
Produced in a deep regal teal on a luxurious fibrous textured oriental paper with a subtle glistening shimmer of silk, to the highest printing and quality standards for which Graham & Brown are held in such high regard.
