Описание: Opposition MPs have filed notices in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The motion cites seven key charges, including alleged mismanagement of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, voter disenfranchisement, and claims of partiality towards certain political parties, with several Supreme Court judgments referenced.

Over 130 Lok Sabha MPs and 63 Rajya Sabha MPs have signed the notice, surpassing the minimum numbers required to trigger formal proceedings, which follow a process similar to the removal of a Supreme Court judge.

The notice comes as the schedule for Assembly elections in Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry is set to be announced, marking the first time in India’s history that a removal notice has been issued against a CEC.
