You can do NaNoWriMo at any age! I wrote my first NaNoWriMo novel at age 16. It did not come out well, but I enjoyed the process. To participate in NaNoWriMo officially, you do have to sign up to the NaNoWriMo website, create an account, announce a project and input your word count there. But it can be 100% private or public as you want.

Again, officially, you need 50,000 words in the month to write for NaNoWriMo but I highly recommend picking your own goal and completing it however you like. The main point of NaNoWriMo is simply to get better at writing and enjoy yourself!
