청룡언월도에 대한 국내 기록에는 조선 후기 무신 이삼(李森) 장군이 활용했다는 기록이 있습니다. 실제로 당시 장군이 남긴 유물 중 언월도의 형태를 가진 무기가 도지정문화제로 전해져 내려오고 있습니다. 이삼 장군의 언월도는 길이 191.5㎝, 무게 2.9㎏으로 실전에서 활용할 수 있도록 개량했을 것으로 추측하고 있습니다.

이삼장군의 언월도에는 ‘용광사우두성(龍光射牛頭星)’ 명문이 새겨 있습니다. ‘용의 빛이 견우성(북두칠성)을 비추다’라는 의미가 담겨 있습니다. 이삼 장군이 검에 대한 애착이 얼마나 강했는지 짐잘할 수 있는 대목입니다.
