A fearsome blade capable of brutal airborne attacks."
Description:
It's crazy how some off-handed developer decisions can influence the entire trajectory of a game's community and its gameplay. Much like how the Samurai class immediately starts with a decent bleed-inflict weapon and a parrying shield, the Bloodhound's Fang is available right in Limgrave, even boasting a NPC summon (Blaidd) related to beating the boss it drops from.
It does good damage and poise damage, it innately inflicts bleed, it can be upgraded with Somber Smithing Stones, it's available from the start, and it can have weapon buffs on top of all that. No wonder this weapon is one of the two top weapons in Elden Ring speed runs, the other being Death's Poker.
As for the thumbnail, using this weapon made me remember that stupid IGN PvP guide from several years back, where they showcased a bugged interaction between Bloodflame Blade's bleed build-up and Fire's Deadly Sin. The drama farmed off that guide actually got far more views than the guide itself.
It's one thing for a shitter like SsethTzeentach (hey hey guys) or Malcolm Reynolds to make some Youtube videos where they troll randoms with these interactions, because that's what we expect from them. In some sense, the prevalence of these bugs makes them a bigger target to be fixed by FromSoftware.
But it's another for a "journalistic" organization like IGN to officially show and endorse obvious exploits. Their reputation has been awful ever since GameFAQs declined in use, and not even "Expert Reacts" can recover it for them. Everyone who has any talent would rather be independent than associate with them; nobody wants to touch IGN, even with a ten-foot pole. I'm surprised whoever owns them bothers to keep the lights on. They're bloody useless for anything except SEO.
