Can We Sail WITHOUT a GPS in the Open Ocean?? | Sailing Ripple Effect

Описание: Our new crew has only been sailing for a few weeks now, and they are just starting to get the hang of how everything on the boat works. Today we will be putting them up to the ultimate test and will remove all electronic navigation tools from the helm, and will only allow them to use paper charts/maps to navigate the boat to a remote island in the Philippines. The crew will first have to plan and draw their course on the paper chart. They will have to plot out landmarks that they can use as visual cues to know where they are, and when they need to turn the boat. They will also have to learn how to triangulate and use surrounding objects/landmasses to determine their rough location. With this kind of challenge, there are a lot of things that can go wrong and we are risking our boat in the process. The main fear is that the crew will not track our location properly and will steer us into shallow waters where we have the possibility of running ground, or crashing into coral. The crew will also be very distracted while trying to navigate, so it will be extremely important that they monitor the sails and avoid any damage to the boat's mechanics.
