"Yolonda Skelton (Jackson) is a multifaceted Indigenous designer from the Gitxsan Nation, internationally known for her work in fashion, film/television, and theater. With a deep commitment to honouring Indigenous culture, her latest collection, "Wind Whispers of Wearable Wisdom," aligns beautifully with this year’s theme of “Air”.
For First Nations people, air represents the breath of life, connecting all living beings and embodying the spirit of freedom, communication, and energy flow between earth and sky. In the cultures of the Pacific Northwest Coast, air carries the voices of ancestors and the whispers of nature, urging us to listen and respect the teachings of the natural world. Yolonda’s designs reflect this profound connection, merging traditional elements with contemporary aesthetics to create garments that not only celebrate heritage but also inspire mindfulness and reverence for the environment.
