Sometimes we may be unaware that we are unknowingly harming our dog's feelings.
Things we take for granted, such as slamming a rolled-up magazine against our palms, shrieking at the TV during a football game, or even the sound of an alarm clock may be alarming to a dog.
Our job is to strive to understand our pets and provide for their needs. To know the ten ways you might be hurting your dog, keep watching!
📌00:00 10 ways you are hurting your dog without realizing📌
00:46 10- LEAVING YOUR DOG ALONE IN THE CAR
You'd never put your dog's life in danger on purpose. When you rush to the store to get one thing and then decide to get a few more, or when you need to pick up somebody at the airport and the flight is delayed, or when the group goes on summer holiday and stops for lunch and bathroom breaks, you could be endangering your four-legged family member by leaving them in the car.
01:58 9- TAKING A LITTLE PUPPY TO A DOG PARK
One should not take a pup to a dog park until they are at least 17 weeks old to protect against vaccinated illnesses.
Puppy vaccines, sometimes known as "puppy shots," do not start until the dog is 6–8 weeks old, with booster doses required every 3–4 weeks until the puppy is 16 weeks old.
02:40 8- YELLING AT YOUR DOG
According to a new study, negatively training your dog, such as yelling at it, can create long-term psychological trauma. Dogs subjected to harsh training methods were found to have greater cortisol levels in their saliva and exhibit more stress responses.
A few months after training, it was discovered that the pups that had received unpleasant training were more pessimistic about earning a reward. Yes, training a dog can test a person's patience. It's natural to want to yell when your dog doesn't stop yelping, pees on your carpet or tips over the garbage can, and eats the trash again.
03:28 7- USING PHYSICAL PUNISHMENTS
While punishment can help decrease undesired behaviors, if it is not used correctly, it can worsen actual problems and produce new ones.
Punishment, if absolutely necessary, must be delivered while the behavior occurs, ideally as soon as it begins. It shouldn't be so severe that it induces fear because this will not affect a change in behavior. Fear is never a positive motivator to change something, so instead, try praising them for good behavior so they know what they should do more of!
04:03 6- PICKING THE WRONG COLLAR
A dog collar with a leash used alone on walks can be harmful to a dog's physical and mental well-being, and some collars control dogs using pain and fear.
Using a basic buckle collar to retain a dog's ID and license tags is good, but pulling your furry friend by the neck is not good. Even with a buckle collar, being leashed by the neck on a walk can be dangerous for dogs who pull or jump, especially if their guardian pulls on the leash. Dogs with broad necks can also readily fall out of buckle collars.
04:54 5- PATTING YOUR DOG'S HEAD
When you welcome your dog, it's natural to give them a friendly pat on the head to show your appreciation. The same can be true if you come across an adorable puppy on the street, and your first reaction is to pat its head to say hello.
But, as per one expert dog trainer, this is entirely incorrect. Patting a dog on the head might be seen by the dog as threatening behavior.
05:34 4- LACK OF ROUTINE AND RULES
Dogs are creatures of habit, and how they see the world around them is determined by how content they are in their surroundings.
As a result, it is critical to developing an organized routine to provide structure and confidence to your dog. Dogs thrive on routines, and establishing one will teach your dog what to anticipate each day and when to expect it.
06:30 3- EXPOSING YOUR DOG TO STRONG SMELLS
It's logical to think that most dogs love going for walks, eating chicken, having belly rubs, and hunting squirrels. There are exceptions, but these facts apply to most dogs.
Similarly, there is a general understanding of what dogs dislike. What is at the top of the list? Citrus. Most dogs are repulsed by the smell and taste of oranges, lemons, and grapefruit. The odor of orange for many dogs is similar to the stink of trash to most humans – which is obviously pretty gross.
07:23 2- GIVING YOUR DOG TOO MUCH FOOD
Over-feeding your dog can result in bloating and obesity and, in pups, bone abnormalities. Bloat is a serious condition, and overfeeding is one of the possible causes. Food bloat happens when the dog's stomach becomes too full, causing it to inflate. This puts strain on other organs, causing the dog to have trouble breathing, limiting blood flow to its heart, and damaging its stomach lining.
08:13 1- LETTING YOUR DOG EAT EVERYTHING
You've seen the situation: your puppy walks boldly behind you, head held high. You're so pleased with how far it's gone in its training in such a short time. Your head is also held high. After all, you have the ideal dog.
