Supreme Court Verdict on Shiv Sena Simplified | Supreme Court Judgement on Maharashtra Crisis | UPSC

Описание: A five-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has announced the judgement in the Shiv Sena Row. The recent judgement is on pleas related to the Maharashtra political crisis which led to the fall of the three-party Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Uddhav Thackeray following a revolt by current Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The Supreme Court verdict says that the then Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari did not act in accordance with the law by calling for a floor test in the Assembly. But, the court also held that it cannot order the restoration of Uddhav Thackeray government as he resigned without facing the floor test.

In the Shiv Sena Judgement, the Supreme Court also refused to disqualify the 16 rebel Shiv Sena MLAs, including Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. It has directed the Maharashtra Speaker to decide on their petitions within a reasonable frame of time.
