Trying to understand how 12 pence made a shilling and 20 shillings made a pound had my brain spinning. And don’t even get me started on all the different coins that existed — this really was a nightmare in your pocket!

This video finally helped me understand what a “shilling” actually was and how everyday transactions worked in Britain before the modern system. It’s fascinating to see how much things have changed and how people managed to keep track of all this without losing their minds!

If you grew up with this system, I have so many questions — because from an American perspective, this is absolutely wild.
