According to a trusted source in the Congress, a huge chunk of leaders are planning to switch sides ahead of the big Lok Sabha elections. The reason behind the split is said to be. A lot of leaders in the party are under huge pressure to join the BJP.

Congress is currently the largest opposition party in the state with 45 seats in the state assembly. Even during the supplementary funds allocation. Congress leaders complained that they have not been allotted funds to politically destroy them. Also, a lot of leaders are unhappy with the party's state unit leadership.
Now this is not the first time when there were reports of a split in Congress.

Earlier in February this year former Congress leader who is now with the BJP Radhakrishnan Vikkhe Patil speaking to TOI gave an open offer to former CM Ashok Chavan to join the BJP.

Earlier in July, Forest Minister of Maharashtra, Sudhir Mungantiwar had told news agency ANI that several leaders in Congress are ‘unhappy with their party because their leaders are full of selfishness’.Besides Sanjay Shirshat of the Shinde Shiv Sena had in July said 16 to 17 Congress MLAs would soon split the party’s state unit.

Now let me tell you why is it actually a blessing in disguise for the Congress. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's cabinet minister V.K Krishna Menon who also wrote the first draft of the Preamble to the Constitution of India had once advised Nehru to remove all the bricks and build the wall again. What it means is to have a complete revamp of the cabinet. Now why let me tell you why is it the best strategy for Congress today.

The situation of Maharashtra Congress today is because of some leaders who have been in the party for decades but have their one leg in the BJP. Most of the leaders gave lost connection with people on the ground. Congress leaders are today seen as opportunists and chances are these are the first people to go. However, there are also chances that some good people might also switch ships during the process but that's part of the process.

What we have learned from the ground is, People in Maharashtra are looking for an alternative, and if the Congress party successfully revamps its structure. The party would have a fair chance to reclaim its base in the state which it has lost for almost a decade.

The Assembly elections are scheduled next year and With half of the NCP led by Ajit Pawar allying with the BJP. A huge chunk of NCP core voters who were originally Congress voters would come back to Congress as ground-level rural NCP voters are upset with Ajit Pawar's rebellion.

if the party invests in youth leaders today which it has in huge numbers and uses the experience of leaders like Prithviraj Chavan to rebuild the party. The party can redeem the anti-incumbency in the state.

And become a bigger partner in the MVA alliance. The party received a massive response during its Bharat Jodo Yatra's Maharashtra leg led by Mr. Rahul Gandhi.

So there is an opportunity for Congress however, it would be interesting to see if they would be able to seize it and present itself as an alternate.
