In this video, I talk about the vocal break technique (also called “fall apart distortion”) that Chris Liepe teaches — and I explain why it can be risky if you rely on it by accident.
My goal here is not to disagree with Chris, but to complement the knowledge: showing how to optimize distortion with less effort and more control, using the “cat sound” and conscious exercises instead of just “falling” into a vocal break.
I’ll also explain the pinwheel analogy that makes this clear, and why finding efficient distortion is the key to safe and powerful pitched screams.
