Modelled after one of four letters, partly in cipher, a letter from John Chisholme to the Laird of Grange, London (6 and 24 February 1571 and no date), the British Library, BL Add Ms 33531 f 101/102.

An example of a letter-writer combining a high security spiral-locking mechanism with a long, encrypted message written entirely in symbolic code.
