This talk will be a wide-ranging introduction to the scope of Zalamea's project as it relates to culture in general, situating his work in regard to trends in 20th century philosophy, and describe the political implications of his project for using the synthetic construction of "relative universals" to produce cognitive maps within a transitory ontology and Peircian general semiosis of transmodern culture. Zalamea's neo-rationalism seeks to position itself as a middle path between extreme forms of relativism, skepticism, and neo-absolutism. A pragmaticist return to a dialectic made polymorphous,Zalamea generalizes the developments of contemporary mathematics into a mechanism for showing how the local and particular matter, against the hegemony of universalist obliteration and reifying singularity. In the process, he provides a new post-foundational approach to mathematics and science which can help destabilize the seeming necessity of many of the reductionist models which tend to link mathematics and science to hegemonies of the powerful, whether by means of blind universals or atomizing reifications, which for him are ultimately differing sides of the same attempt to erase the centrality and richness of the local and transitory when put into relation with what Deleuze might call a "transcendental empiricism."
