A quick morning video I took of some prospecting gold at the beach. My hair was all frazzled at the windy Oregon Coast. The gold though was good for how easy sand is to dig. This was a part do our 1800 mile van rental trip to prospect, find gold, and rockhound.
Gold Beach, Oregon has a rich history including its own gold rush. The town lives up to its namesake.
Rivers with gold like the Rogue River and Sixes River have sent gold rich sands to be concentrated on the beaches here for a very long time.
Current day miners still try their hand at some of this gold. It is easier than you would think it is. Sand is easy digging. But Oregon beaches have "rules" in place to limit the types of mining you can do on these beaches at the Oregon coast moving sand.
In only 1 hour, the gold found was incredible. But as schedules and responsibilities go, I had only this short time window.
If you find yourself at the Southern Oregon Coast try and get some of your own beach gold. In Oregon the Beaches are all public and nobody owns them. The trick is finding the access points and finding a flow of water to work in.
