Four years after Russia’s full-scale invasion, the war against Ukraine continues to shape European and global security debates.
In this #EUIUpFront discussion, Alain Lempereur, Olena Snigyr, and Bohdan Bernatskyi examine how negotiations unfold in conditions of power asymmetry, how sanctions influence strategic calculations, and how interactions between Russia, the United States, and the European Union affect diplomatic dynamics.
The conversation also addresses the relationship between peace and justice, asking whether negotiations can deliver a durable settlement without accountability, and what the implications are for European security and international legal order.
📍 Alain Lempereur is EUI Chair in Leadership and Negotiation at the Florence School of Transnational Governance. His research focuses on responsible leadership, negotiation, and mediation in complex conflict settings.
📍 Olena Snigyr is a Jean Monnet Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the EUI. Her research examines Russian foreign policy, European security, and Ukrainian foreign policy.
📍 Bohdan Bernatskyi is a Research Associate at the Florence School of Transnational Governance at the EUI. His work focuses on international sanctions, their legal and political transformation, and the evolution of global governance.
