An Irish army mechanised infantry section comes under fire in their MOWAG Piranha IIIH APC and immediately take the fight to the enemy. This exciting display was filmed in May 2018 and shows some of the light infantry tactics employed by today's armies.
The MOWAG Piranha IIIH 8x8 APC in Irish service is used solely as an armoured personnel carrier (APC) and is not employed in the assault role. It was delivered equipped with a one-man operated HELIO Fighting Vehicle Turret 800(I) armed with a Browning .5 inch M2-HB QCB HMG and a co-axial 7.62mm MAG 80. Neither gun was fitted in the MOWAG featured in the video. The MOWAG Piranha fleet is due a mid-life upgrade shortly which will include, amongst other improvements, the replacement of the turret with a remote weapons system (RWS). I hope to upload a video dealing with the MOWAG Piranha IIIH in a few months time.
Filmed with the consent of the relevant military authorities.
