Kwanzaa is observed December 26th through January 1st and is an opportunity to explore and celebrate African heritage.
Families gather together to exchange gifts and light a series of black, red, and green candles on the Kinara, or candleholder. Other symbols and decorations that are found alongside the Kinara are the Mkeka (mat), Muhindi (corn to represent the children), and Mazao (fruit to represent the harvest).
To help your family and friends celebrate Kwanzaa, try making your own Mkeka!

Wishing you a joyous Kwanzaa!
