Feeding Bees Syrup in Autumn. How Heavy Should They Be? Thats a good question. In short they should be really heavy going into winter. The full size beehives should feel live they are nailed to the floor.
For me I prefer the hives to be full of either honey or syrup before the cold winter sets in. Thats why its crucial to get some feed into the bees In September and October. If we can get the hives heavy at this time of year then we won't need to rely heavily on fondant.
The trick is not to feed the bees too much too early as this can stop the queen bee from laying up winter bees and storing pollen.
