In this video, I visit the Nijō Castle in Kyoto, Japan. This castle was originally built in 1603 as the official residence of the first shogun of the Edo period. Nijo Castle was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
Admission to the castle costs 800 yen. If you want to enter Ninomaru Palace, you have to pay an additional 500 yen. I recommend it. If you don't enter the palace, there isn't much to see other than the castle grounds.
One thing that disappointed me somewhat is that the paintings in Ninomaru Palace are all reproductions. The originals that have survived are in a museum on site. There is an additional fee to visit the museum to view them.
The castle grounds are beautiful. There are several places where you can sit and relax and buy a cold drink. I recommend a visit here if you're visiting Kyoto. It was one of my favorite sites in the city.
