The Orkhon Inscriptions are our main source for the history of the Turkic Khaganates, also known as the First and Second Göktürk Empires. They were errected in the 730s. The stele have been named after the "authors" of these texts, Kül Tegin, Tonyukuk and of course the legendary Bilge Khan. However, recently a research group working for the International Turkic Academy and the Mongolian Institute of Archeology excavated a Turkic monument that obviously belonged to Ilterish, father of Bilge and Kül Tegin as well as the liberator of the Turks in their struggle against China. Ilterish founded the 2nd Göktürk Empire in 681, and the monument dedicated to this ruler imply that the word "Türk" in the Old Turkic language was recorded approx. 30-50 years earlier then assumed.
But what exactly did the researchers find? I summarized their findings in this short video, which is basically my come-back video for all of Khan's Den as well as the first 4K production in a long time. More to come!
