What is it like to ride in a war zone not even recognized as a country?
We met a cycling team by accident and rode from the Tigris to the Euphrates. Our message to locals was “This is the America we represent, let’s ride across your country”. We toured Raqqa which was an ISIS stronghold just one month earlier – this was the scariest alleycat of my life.
Small town locals are very friendly and many have never spoken to an American before. Syrians are the most resilient people I’ve ever met.
