The incredible 1932 PreCode adventure classic THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME arrives on a new Blu-ray release as part of the Masters of Cinema lone. Eureka has produced the most impressive disc release of the film yet though sadly its public domain status and decades of terrible transfers has meant the elements are not in the best shape and the current best restoration utilized here still has issues of its own. While this uses the German restoration found on the OOP and expensive German Blu-ray it has hideously over noise managed audio necessitating watching the film with the unrestored audio option.
Still this is the best release of the film to date and it is one of the most underrated, most undervalued, most overlooked films ever made. Coming from Merian C Cooper and Ernest Schoedsack, this film remains in the shadow of its sibling film, the simultaneously produced KING KONG. Yet this remains the definitive adaptation of the oft told/ripped off classic story and features some of the tightest storytelling ever put forth in a motion picture. This is a film to be revisited for a lifetime and one that should be studied for its incredible craftsmanship in film schools.
