Protesters in Pottsville brave frigid temperature to rally against ICE

“America! America! God shed his grace on thee, and crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea!”
The song, “America the beautiful,” hovered over a collection of “No Kings” protesters who gathered in Garfield Square on Tuesday evening, closing out a candlelight vigil honoring victims of ICE raids. A Lutheran pastor spoke. Renee Good, the 37-year-old Minnesotan woman who was shot and killed by an ICE agent two weeks ago, was remembered. Participants huddled together in scarves and with signs, helping one another light small candles.
Across the street, a small gathering of pro-Trump counter-protesters drowned out the patriotic tune with music blasting out of a speaker laid on the street and shouts of “No justice for Renee Good.”
The combination rally and vigil was organized by the Schuylkill County Democratic Committee (SCDC), which has previously organized multiple rallies like this as part of a nationwide “No Kings” movement that protests the Trump Administration.
