Doctors’ handwriting is so poor that even a High Court judge couldn’t read a medico-legal report during a case hearing. Shocked, Justice Jasgurpreet Singh Puri of the Punjab and Haryana High Court exercised his authority appropriately and delivered a landmark judgment: The court decreed that doctors across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh must write prescriptions in clear, readable handwriting or in capital letters, and medical colleges must incorporate handwriting training classes for future doctors. The court emphasised how illegible writing can impact treatment, cause confusion, and even endanger a patient’s life.
