Japanese Consul in Vladivostok Caught by Russia's FSB Conducting Espionage

The Russian Federation expelled Japanese diplomat Motoki Tatsunori on September 26, 2022 based on evidence provided by the Federal Security Service (FSB). Tatsunori was assigned as a diplomat (consul) in the Consulate General of Japan in Vladivostok, Russia.

The video shows Tatsunori (left) talking with a female covert operative of the FSB (right) during a clandestine meeting in a restaurant in Primorksy Krai, Vladivostok. During this meeting the female operative provides documents with classified information that Tatsunori allegedly requested in return of a monetary reward from the intelligence service of Japan.

Then the video shows Tatsunori confessing what's shown in the video in the regional office of the FSB.

According to the FSB, Tatsunori was an intelligence officer operating under diplomatic cover. He was tasked to acquire classified information related to Russia's cooperation with countries of the Asia-Pacific region as well as details on the regional impact of the Western economic sanctions.
