A review of Assimil's Portuguese course for French speakers. This course appears to be an update of an older Portuguese course. It is not available for English speakers, unfortunately, as of August 2023.
Overall, I felt this course was pretty good. Course content covers all the grammar of Portuguese. The lessons did a good job at trying to maintain a light, humorous approach that I really appreciated. A few lessons were tedious, but no book can be all things to all people.
I noticed a few typos, but they were extremely rare and did not interfere with the lessons. My copy contains a printing error in the dictionary near page 469 where the pages are slightly out of order.
If you're looking for more European Portuguese resources, there a few YouTubers that can help: Portuguese with Leo, Mia Esmeriz Academy, The Sounds of Portuguese. I also found Storyglot (e-book, paid) very good to use during this as well as after.
