Meat donations help needy families celebrate

Needy families in Gaza have received deliveries of meat to help them celebrate Eid al-Adha.
The donations were organised by a Turkish aid organisation.
STORYLINE:
Holidays are difficult when you don't have any money.
But these meat donations will make sure even the poorest families can celebrate Eid al-Adha with a delicious meal.
Around 65 carcasses are being butchered and divided for distribution in Gaza.
The meat will feed 13,000 families.
Cutting and sorting this huge amount of beef is a big job but there are plenty of workers here to pitch in and bag up each donation.
"These projects have a significant role in alleviating the suffering of the people of Gaza," says Ahmad Al-Najjar, director of meat distribution project.
"This meat will be provided to poor families, orphans, sick and disabled people."
Tareq Rehan is one of the people to receive a bag of meat.
He says it makes him "happy" and shows there are "still good people who support us".
Electricity shortages have made this year particularly hard on Gazans - it makes storing meat for any length of time almost impossible.
And around 60,000 former government employees have also had their salaries slashed amid a dispute between rival Palestinian governments.
Egypt and Israel imposed a blockade on Gaza after the Hamas takeover in 2017, crippling the local economy.
Israel says the blockade is vital to prevent Hamas from getting weapons, but critics condemn it as collective punishment.
Last month, a UN report says life in Gaza is getting "more and more wretched" after a decade of Hamas rule and the blockade.
