Cleaning a Jandy CS250 Pool Filter
Start by powering down the entire system. Then open the pressure relief valve to let the cannister depressurize. You will hear the air rushing out of the system. When there is no more air coming out of the pressure relief valve drain all the water out of the canister by removing the drain plug. Once all the water is out of the filter canister, undo the ring nut that secures the upper and lower parts of the canister. Remove the top of the canister and remove the filter core.
Rinse the filter core with plain water from a hose to loosen up the heavy dirt and then soak it down with a filter cleaner or detergent and let it sit for a few minutes. While soaking, prepare a mild muriatic acid solution to wash out the chlorinator in a plastic container. I used a plastic bucket. Remove the chlorinator from its housing and place it in the muriatic acid solution. It will start to dissolve the calcification on the electrodes. Swirl it around a few times and let it sit while washing out the filter core.
Return to the filter core and wash it out thoroughly with water from a hose with a nozzle that adds a bit of pressure. You will see the dirt washing off the filter core. Once you have thoroughly washed all the detergent and as much of the dirt from the filter core replace it in the canister. Replace the drain plug and reattach the canister top and secure it by tightening down the ring nut. Replace the chlorinator in its housing, taking care to align the arrows with the direction of flow.
With the pressure relief valve still lose, power on the system. Let all the air bleed out of the system. You will hear the air rushing out of the system. Once water starts shooting out of the relief valve close it off and checks for any leaks.
No leaks…then you are all done.
