Tour the Latest ICON A5 Seaplane + Wing Fold DEMO

Описание: The ICON A5 has one of the cleverest folding-wing systems we’ve seen on any light sport aircraft. At Oshkosh AirVenture 2026, we got a hands-on demonstration of just how quickly the A5’s wings can be unlocked, folded and secured alongside the fuselage — taking around 10 seconds per side. Even the tips of the tail can be removed, reducing the aircraft’s width so it can be transported safely on a trailer.

What makes the system even more impressive is its simplicity. The fuel is stored in the fuselage rather than the wings, helping keep each wing to around 70 lb. A single locking handle releases the wing, which is then pulled out, rotated and folded back against the tail. Microswitches monitor the system and warn the pilot if a wing isn't correctly secured.

But the ICON A5 amphibious seaplane has plenty more going on. We take a look inside the carbon-fibre aircraft and discuss its spin-resistant handling, Angle of Attack indicator, optional Garmin autopilot, aircraft parachute system, Rotax 912 engine, retractable landing gear and its ability to operate from both land and water.

We also find out what it's actually like to own and fly an ICON A5, including its approximately 90–95 knot indicated cruise speed, roughly 400 nautical mile practical range, around 4 gallons per hour fuel burn, training requirements and operating costs. Lucas also explains who is buying these aircraft and why the A5 is particularly suited to coastal flying and beach adventures.
