The UK Supreme Court ruled today that, under equality law, a woman is defined as a biological female.
The landmark judgement sided with the campaign group 'For Women Scotland', which brought a case against the Scottish government, arguing that sex-based protections should only apply to people born female, and not trans people with a gender-recognition certificate.
Delivering the ruling, Judge Lord Hodge counselled against reading it as a triumph of one group over another.
