Manikaran is a small town in the Parvati Valley of Himachal Pradesh, located about 4-5 km from Kasol in the Kullu district, and is known for its natural hot springs and deep religious importance. Set along the Parvati River and surrounded by the Himalayas, it has long been a pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Sikhs. In Sikh history, Guru Nanak Dev Ji is believed to have visited Manikaran in the 16th century, where a miracle caused hot springs to emerge, allowing food to be cooked for the langar, a tradition that continues today at Gurudwara Manikaran Sahib. In Hindu mythology, the hot springs are associated with Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, who are said to have stayed here, and the name "Manikaran' comes from a legend about Parvati's lost jewels. Over time, Manikaran has become both a spiritual center and a popular destination for travelers visiting Kasol and the wider Parvati Valley.
