The RC Pilot & the FAA Recreational and Part 107 A Discussion
This video provided an overview of the RC pilot and how we interact with the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), to include an overview of Part 107 flying of radio control models. This is intended to be a discussion, to provide background for RC pilots. The idea being the FAA will be getting a lot more involved in our flying activities over the next few years, as part of the FAA airspace safety mission.
Recreational RC pilots will soon have to take a test from the FAA. This is being developed now. The FAA Part 107 test and FAA Part 107 license is discussed as well. I just passed my FAA Part 107 test last week, and this will be a subject of a future video.
The Federal Aviation Administration has been directed by Congress to get more involved in regulating the flight of RC models. The FAA divides the Small Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) into recreational flyers and commercial. Commercial UAS flyers need an FAA Part 107 pilot certificate, and the determination for this is if you fly your RC model/drone to earn money.
Finally, I discuss the future of Remote ID for our RC models, and the vital importance of the Academy of Model Aeronautics advocating for our position in these important discussions with the FAA.
