There are several ways to get to Rome’s city center from Rome’s Fiumicino airport, the city’s main airport. However, the fastest way is to take the Leonardo Express train operated by Trenitalia, the primary train operator in Italy.
In this video, I show how easy it is to take the train. The airport train station about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the Terminal 3 upper level, but it but can be reached from Terminal 1 as well.
*Note* Depending on where you are when you arrive at the airport, you also might be able to get to the train station by walking across the two lanes of traffic when you exit the arrivals level. You’ll then make your way up a ramp and then up an escalator to get to the train station. If it’s open, there’s also an escalator in Terminal 3 that takes you to a tunnel below the street and provides easier access. There are several different ways to get there. The way I showed might be a little longer depending on where you’re coming from, but it’s probably the simplest way to get to the station.
Also, I recommend using the Trenitalia app to buy tickets for this trip and all of your train tickets in Italy, assuming that you’re not also using Italo, the other train provider that goes between major cities. FYI, Italo does not operate trains to Rome’s airport.
When booking using the app, use the following:
Departure: Fiumicino Aeroporto
Arrival: Roma Termini
