Recorded circa May 1924. Nothing is known about these specific recordings, but Paramount's Rise And Fall (3rd ed., pg. 115) by Alex van der Tuuk had the following to say about the two matrices immediately preceding this recording session:
"The first old-time music to be issued by Paramount appeared in their 33000 series in 1924–1925. Harmonica soloist Walter C. Peterson had the honor of being the first artist to record an old-time tune for the N.Y.R.L., in early May 1924 in Chicago. This apparent trial recording was completely isolated between 'race' artists like Jimmy Blythe and Thelma La Vizzo. It was followed in August by a lone 'old-time' session by B.E. Scott, also recorded in Chicago."
The Walter C. Peterson recordings he refers to are "Old Time Melodies" Part I and Part II (matrices 1752 and 1753), released on Paramount 33150. This test pressing of matrices 1754 and 1755 doesn't seem to be Walter C. Peterson, but they do seem to be part of Paramount's earliest exploration into old-time music.
If anybody has any additional information they are able to provide, I'd be very interested in hearing it.
