কম দামে মাংস খাইয়ে যেভাবে মৃত্যুর ফাঁদে ঠেলে দেন কসাইরা

এক টুকরো মাংসের লোভেই যেন মৃত্যুর ফাঁদে পা দিচ্ছে গ্রামের মানুষজন। যে খাবারে থাকার কথা ছিল উৎসবের স্বাদ, আজ সেখানেই লুকিয়ে আছে প্রাণঘাতী জীবাণু। কেউ আক্রান্ত হচ্ছেন মাংস কাটতে গিয়ে, কেউ আবার রান্না করতে গিয়ে। হঠাৎ শরীরে দেখা দিচ্ছে কালচে ক্ষত, মনে হবে যেন আগুনে পোড়া দাগ। ধীরে ধীরে ফুলে উঠছে সেই ক্ষত। ব্যথায় কাতর হয়ে অনেকেই চিকিৎসা নিয়েছেন স্থানীয়ভাবে, কিন্তু সারছে না কিছুতেই। শেষ পর্যন্ত তাদের বাধ্য হয়ে ছুটতে হচ্ছে হাসপাতালে।

শেষে কারণ হিসেবে যা জানা গেল, তাতে হয়তো চোখ উঠবে কপালে। অসুস্থ গরু-ছাগল জবাই করে সস্তায় বাজারে তোলা হচ্ছে মাংস, আর সেই কম দামের লোভেই ঝুঁকে পড়ছেন সাধারণ মানুষ। অজান্তেই তাদের শরীরে ঢুকে পড়ছে অ্যানথ্রাক্স জীবাণু। ফলে মেহেরপুরের কাজিপুর, মটমুড়া, সাহারবাটি আর বামন্দীর গ্রামগুলোতে ছড়িয়ে পড়ছে অ্যানথ্রাক্স আতঙ্ক।

চিকিৎসকরা বলছেন, এই রোগকে হালকাভাবে নিলে বিপদ বাড়বে আরও। আক্রান্ত হলে হাসপাতালে আসতে হবে দ্রুত, নাহলে ক্ষত ছড়িয়ে যেতে পারে গোটা শরীরে। শুধু তাই নয়, স্বাস্থ্য বিভাগের তথ্য অনুযায়ী, মেহেরপুরেই চলতি বছরে অ্যানথ্রাক্সে আক্রান্ত হয়েছেন ৪৬৪ জন। এর মধ্যে প্রায় ৯৮ শতাংশই গাংনী উপজেলার বাসিন্দা। এই সংখ্যা প্রমাণ করে, কতটা ভয়াবহভাবে ছড়িয়ে পড়ছে রোগটি।
