Before heading deep into the Eastern Sierra backcountry, there’s one rule every hiker, backpacker, and angler should follow: acclimate to the altitude. At high elevation the air gets thinner quickly, but taking time to adjust can make the difference between struggling and enjoying the adventure.
In this episode of Tale Waters, I spend a full day acclimating at 9,000 feet in California’s Eastern Sierra, fishing cold mountain creeks for wild brown, rainbow, and brook trout before tomorrow’s 10,500-foot backcountry trek to chase alpine brookies. Along the way I explore beautiful fall scenery, fish quiet high-country water, and let the mountains set the pace before heading deeper into the Sierra.
If you enjoy creek fishing, trout fishing in the Eastern Sierra, and backcountry hiking adventures, this episode blends fishing, scenery, and practical outdoor wisdom.
