Afghanistan has accused Pakistan of carrying out a deadly airstrike on a hospital in Kabul, claiming around 400 people were killed and about 250 injured, most of them patients receiving treatment at the facility.
Afghan officials said the strike hit the state-run Omid hospital, which was treating drug rehabilitation patients, with nearly 3,000 people inside at the time. Witnesses described a devastating scene, with fire engulfing the building, parts collapsing, and many victims trapped under the rubble.
Survivors recalled chaos and horror, with patients fleeing through smoke-filled wards as explosions tore through the hospital. Rescue teams continued searching for bodies as emergency workers battled flames and destruction.
However, Pakistan rejected the allegations, calling them “false and misleading.” Officials in Islamabad stated that the strikes targeted militant infrastructure and military sites, not civilian areas.
The incident comes amid escalating tensions between the two countries, with ongoing cross-border clashes and worsening violence. Both sides have reported casualties in recent days, including civilians killed near the border.
The United Nations has expressed concern over the reports, urging both nations to show restraint and protect civilians, especially critical facilities like hospitals.
This latest strike marks a serious escalation in what Pakistan has described as an “open war” with Afghanistan, a conflict that has already displaced thousands and further strained relations between the neighboring countries.
